The European Conference on Optical Communication (ECOC) was held in Basel, Switzerland from 19 to 21 September 2022, where operators, equipment vendors and optical module manufacturers from all over the world gathered to discuss new technologies and research next-generation optical communications products. ATOP Corporation has been exhibiting at ECOC for many years, and this year, we focused on demonstrating PON series products and 400G Data Centre series products at booth #263 .

In recent years, the global PON market demand is growing rapidly, according to the market trend and customer demand, ATOP has launched PON series products, like XGS Combo PON OLT and some other 10G PON products have been verified by overseas equipment manufactures  and started to ship.
In addition, ATOP and overseas mainstream PON equipment manufactures are cooperating on researching 25G/50G PON technology as well. Currently, ATOP’s 25G/50G PON optical module products are in the development stage.

ATOP Corporation recently announced the general availability (GA) of its 25G Tunable DWDM product to meet increasing customer demand for optical transceivers of high performance, high-density form factor with extensive tuning range. ATOP 25G Tunable DWDM is a 48 C-band channel (“wide-band”), auto-tuning optical transceiver equipped with a EML tuning laser. This transceiver allows full band, auto-tuning within 4 mins, supporting a data link up to 15km distance via single-mode fiber. With a wide tuning range and automatic tuning, this product is therefore the first choice for those operating a large DWDM network with multiple nodes and dynamic network demands. It not only enables flexible network management by supporting bandwidth changes as needed in Enterprise or Metro networks but also delivers significant long-term cost savings by reducing on-hand network inventory and simplifying spare parts stocking.

ATOP Attended CIOE 2021 with 400G DR4 Demo

From September 16 to 18, 2021, the 23th CIOE was held in Shenzhen World Exhibition & Convention Center.

ATOP demonstrated 400G DR4 at booth 6C83 of CIOE. ATOP 400G DR4 transceiver complies with IEEE 802.3cu, QSFP-DD MSA and 400G DR4 specifications. It is applied to 400G Ethernet, data center and cloud network and supports a maximum transmission distance of 500m. Graphene heat pipe is adopted, and the shell parts dissipate heat evenly and quickly. It reduces power consumption effectively. The maximum power consumption is no more than 11W.

The integrated optical engine independently developed by ATOP simplifies the process to improve the yield and reliability. Full link high-speed signal simulation ensures the best signal quality.

Blueprint was Approved - ATOP Will Vigorously Promote the Construction of Project Phase II

The total investment of ATOP corporation’s project Phase 2 is valued at about 400 million yuan. The project will focus on the expansion of their 100G~400G transceiver series built to better serve 5G and data centres. The total area of the project is 24,598.38 ㎡(about 6.08 acres) while its total planned construction area is 82234.46㎡. The project is scheduled for completion in two years.

 

 

The latest data released by market research company, Synergy shows that in the past two years, a total of 111 new super-large data centres have been built, 52 of which were built in 2020 – a year when COVID-19 was spreading globally. Meanwhile, as of 2020, China has built 700,000 5G base stations and plans to build 600,000 5G base stations in 2021. The market demand for 100G~400G transceivers is also estimated to grow rapidly.

The development of data centres and Ethernet is gaining momentum. ATOP’s project will combine silicon photonic packaging technology to expand the production line of 100G~400G high-speed optical modules, and develop 5G new infrastructure to boost data centre network expansion.

ATOP Launched 25G LWDM and 25G MWDM Transceivers

China Telecom Research Institute recently organised the first comprehensive testing of 5G fronthaul LWDM solution. The testing objects included 25G LWDM transceivers and optical MUX-DEMUX. The evaluation covered conventional performance tests and extreme temperature tests for industrial-grade applications (-40°C to +85°C). Talking about other WDM transceivers, we also launched 25G MWDM transceivers. In the testing, ATOP 25G LWDM transceivers, combined with SDGI optical MUX-DEMUX, passed all index tests with excellent performance reports under various extreme conditions. This includes high and low extreme temperature operation (-40℃~+85℃ temperature cycle, +85℃ and 85% humidity storage, -40℃ storage). Additionally, after pairing with the network, the transceivers did not encounter any error codes within 24 hours in the 40km transmission system. This further demonstrates the transceiver’s obvious performance advantage. MWDM ATOP’s 25G LWDM transceiver adopts a standard SFP28 packaging form with DFB (with TEC)/PIN solution. The transceiver’s transmission rate can reach up to 25.78Gbps and a distance of 10 kilometres (40 kilometres maximally), while the wavelength can support 12 channels (1269.23nm~1318.35nm) of O-band. Furthermore, the operating temperature range enables applications in both commercial and industrial level environments. Currently, ATOP’s 25G LWDM is in mass production. Combined with SDGI optical MUX-DEMUX, we are able to provide clients with an integrated solution that can also meet batch order demands.

MWDM

Meanwhile, ATOP has launched a 25G SFP28 MWDM 12 channel transceiver with DFB (with TEC) laser that satisfies industrial-level applications. It offers an optical power of 0-6dBm, has a transmitter sensitivity of -14dBm and maximum power consumption of 2W. A transmission distance of 10km is also supported. MWDM The transceiver combines an optical layer topping adjustment technology that implements an OAM mechanism with the capabilities of flexible deployment, fault location, and optical layer protection. It is suitable for a 5G Open-WDM/MWDM semi-active fronthaul solution, as proposed by China Mobile, and can effectively improve the efficiency of network management and maintenance. Currently, this product is available for demo purposes, and interested parties are welcome to contact us for more information. Furthermore, 5G is currently said to be the driving force behind China’s new capital construction. ATOP is determined to seize this market opportunity and to precisely identify the market vane. ATOP 25G DWDM Transceivers Realized Overseas Batch Delivery

According to the latest GSMA report, 42 countries and regions have launched 81 commercial 5G networks all over the world by the end of May 2020. 386 telecom operators from 97 countries and regions have announced their investment in 5G construction. 

As an international transceiver manufacturer, ATOP is deepening its domestic 5G business and is closely cooperating with major domestic operators to conduct in-depth exchanges. At the same time, we intend to stay focused on overseas 5G market trends and actively respond to our customers’ requirements for 5G products. Through these efforts, ATOP’s independently developed and produced 25G DWDM transceiver series has successfully achieved mass supply to many major overseas operators. Moreover, the products have also passed the verification test conducted by a well-known manufacturer of domestic equipment.

ATOP’s 25G DWDM transceivers adopt a standard SFP28 package form with the EML PIN/APD solution. The transmission rate can reach up to 25.78Gbps and the channel supports 21~60. The maximum power of the transceiver is 2.3W with a transmission distance that reaches 10/15 kilometres. With a flexible operating temperature, it is able to support commercial, extended and industrial grade environments.

By applying the transceiver to the fronthaul of 5G network architecture, massive optical fibre resources can be saved while keeping operation and maintenance costs low. However, due to the influence of dispersion, it is difficult for 25G DWDM transceivers to ensure that the transmission distance supports over 15km. To overcome this issue, ATOP is cooperating with chip manufacturers to redress the dispersion problem so that optical modules can transmit data up to 30km. The product is currently in its R&D stage.

ATOP has always been committed to the development and design of DWDM series products. Through years of technology and production experience, great industry chain vertical integration, as well as optical device packaging, ATOP has created a DWDM product chain that is mature and stable. China Mobile anticipates a total capital expenditure of roughly 25.3 billion dollars in 2020 — 1.4 billion dollars of which will be invested in 5G-related technology. In regard to 5G network construction, China Mobile will build 250,000 5G base stations in order to reach commercial operation in cities and the demand for 50G optical modules, which is expected to reach 500,000 (roughly calculated based on 2 optical modules per base station). However, this demand will at least double in amount if other state-run operators, namely China Telecom and China Unicom, also adopt 50G optical modules as their main solution for 5G midhaul and backhaul.

Faced with this market opportunity, ATOP officially launched the 50G QSFP28 ER optical module in virtue of its industry chain vertical integration and optical device packaging capability. The product has completed the sample test and will be able to reach mass shipment after August. Currently, this product is available for demo purposes and interested parties are welcome to contact us for more information.

ATOP’s 50G QSFP28 ER optical module adopts the standard QSFP28 package form and applies PAM4 modulation technology. The device solution is EML + APD. The transmission rate can reach up to 53.125Gbps and a transmission distance of 40 kilometres. The product can support commercial-grade operating temperature, and its indexes are compatible with IEEE 802.3 cn_50GBASE-ER standard. Despite its low power consumption, this product boasts high bandwidth. A 5G network architecture can benefit from its use for backhaul and midhaul, which meets the needs for high bandwidth and low costs of 5G carrying. At the same time, the 50G optical module can also be used for connection between NIC and ToR in hyperscale data centres.

 

 

Based on the needs of the 5G carrying network, ATOP strives to provide more 50G series products in the future, including 50G QSFP28 LR and 50G QSFP28 BIDI LR / ER. With the rapid development of 5G network construction all over the world, the demand for optical modules applied for 5G fronthaul networks has seen explosive growth. As a low-cost, low-power, flexible and expandable technology, CWDM (Coarse Wavelength Division Multiplexing) is able to save abundant optical fibre resources for base stations and is one of the leading solutions for 5G fronthaul. In the first quarter of 2020, ATOP overcame the challenges presented by COVID-19 and successfully shipped 10,000 sets (60,000 pcs) of 25G CWDM (wavelength 1270nm ~ 1370nm) products to our customers. ATOP 25G CWDM (wavelength 1270nm * 1370nm) products currently have a monthly capacity of about 4,000 sets (24000 pieces).

This year, ATOP has invested massive funds on expansion projects for high data rate series products in order to strengthen the mass shipment capacity of these products and to expand our own market territory of 5G series optical modules. We have also completed our bid for production facilities, including oscilloscopes and matching modules, spectrographs, high-low temperature chambers and ageing ovens. Project construction is underway and the capacity of 25G CWDM products is anticipated to achieve 12,000 sets (72,000 units) in May and 30,000 sets (180,000 units) in June.

ATOP’s 25G CWDM (wavelength 1270nm ~ 1370nm) optical modules adopt a standard SFP28 packaging form and the device solution is DFB+PIN. The transmission rate can reach up to 25.78Gbps and the wavelength range is from 1270nm to 1370nm. The operating temperature range can support both industrial and commercial levels. The maximum power consumption of the I-temp product is 1.5w and the C-temp product is 1w. The transmission distance can support 10 kilometres and 20 kilometres. The product can be applied for 5G fronthaul. In parallel, 25G CWDM (wavelength 1470nm ~1570nm), 25G BIDI and 25G LR products have already achieved mass production in 2019.

To achieve this goal, ATOP developed a new brand identity and a new way of communicating on all platforms which was officially revealed on January 8th, 2020. With the new brand strategy, ATOP is on its way to achieve a stronger market position and a more interactive way of communicating with both existing and potential clients.

What does the new “ATOP” represent?

The brand mark is a symbol of ATOP’s identity and is an important signal to the market about who we are and what we do. The letter “O” describes a circle — a universal symbol with extensive meaning. It represents the notions of totality, wholeness, original perfection and is one of the oldest and most powerful symbols. Symbolizing the ongoing initiation and continuation of things – nothing is static. The circle also represents a 360-degree view, looking outward from all angles and taking input from all directions. The rounded shape tends to send a positive emotional message of harmony and protection. The circle is often used in symbolism to represent unity, commitment, love or community.

The modification of the “O”

  • A movement from left to right in Western philosophy means moving forward. Thus, ATOP’s “O” modification signals the momentum of moving forward for the company, its solutions, engagement and partnerships.
  • A symbolic translation of binary language – zeroes and ones. Imagine moving the small “square” in and out of the circle, describing “connect” (in the circle) and ”disconnect” (out of the circle).
  • Solving a basic paradox: Describing a square from a circle. Only companies with an imaginative mindset can do so. Companies like these are some of the most attractive partners to work with because they can identify solutions that otherwise would not be possible. The modification has “yin and yang” symbolism which denotes the two sides of transceiving and balance.
Additionally, we put forward a new corporate slogan: “let’s make it personal”, which highlights the core concept of ATOP’s customer orientation. It reflects our professional attitude to provide customers with unique and personalized services to create perfect solutions for each customer as well as helping customers stand out from the competition.  Listening to what others think and serving what others need is not only our attitude towards customers but also our attitude towards everyone at ATOP. The largest Network Communication Technology Exhibition Interop opened in Las Vegas, US from May 15 to 19. The themes of this year exhibition are high-speed network communication accessory modules, broadband data access combination and wireless & mobile communication.
